What’s involved in an epoxy floor

Every epoxy floor starts with the concrete underneath. We test moisture levels, repair cracks and damaged areas, and mechanically prepare the surface by shot-blasting or diamond grinding so the resin can key in properly. Skipping this step is the main reason resin floors peel or blister.

Depending on how the area is used, we then apply either a high-build epoxy coating (typically for lighter traffic and workshops) or a thicker self-levelling or screed system for heavy industrial use. Anti-slip aggregate, coving at the wall line and line markings can all be included in the same job.

Frequently asked questions

How long does an epoxy floor take to install?

Most jobs take a few days, depending on the size of the area, the condition of the concrete and the system chosen. We’ll give you a clear programme with your quote and can phase work around your operations.

When can we use the floor again?

Epoxy floors can usually take light foot traffic within about a day, with full chemical and vehicle loading after several days. Times depend on the product and site temperature; where downtime is critical we may recommend a rapid-cure MMA system instead.

Can you coat over an existing floor?

Often, yes. If the existing coating is well bonded we can prepare and overcoat it; if it’s failing, we remove it back to sound concrete first. We’ll check this during the site survey.
